Asparagus-love it or hate it?

I was given a challenge by a customer. Could I make an asparagus cake? No, not one with pureed asparagus in it, but one that just looked like asparagus.

I scanned the internet and found a great tutorial on http://www.sweetapolita.com. She gave very specific directions on how to make it. The flavor of the cake was lemon with cream cheese frosting.

Although it took some serious time and dedication, both I and my customer were pleased with the results!

It was a prank birthday cake for a vegetable hating teenager!

Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for a great 2013! I really enjoyed helping you celebrate your special times.

December was very busy with events, cookies and a couple of weddings thrown in! January is shaping up nicely. I am working on an epic birthday cake and cant wait to show it to you! I also am working with a web designer and will be unveiling a new website hopefully this month! I’ll keep you posted.

Here are a few pictures from this past month!

Tiramisu Cake

I was collaborating with a wedding client. She had mentioned how much she loved tiramisu and wondered if a tier of the wedding cake could be that flavor. So it sent me on a hunt! I found a lovely recipe on Smitten Kitchen for a Tiramisu Cake.

I had a meeting with our worship team from church and volunteered to bring dessert. I know. Aren’t you shocked??? I put the cake together which was surprisingly quick and easy. It was a hit and I think I actually prefer it to actually tiramisu.

It was a two layer vanilla cake soaked with coffee syrup, mascarpone and cream filling and frosting, chopped chocolate in between the layers. We all enjoyed it!

Crepe Cake

For my open house, I wanted to try a few new recipes. I had been seeing crepe cakes on Pinterest and wAnted to try one. I borrowed a crepe pan from a friend and got to work. I had never made crepes before and was surprised how easy they were to make! (Although time consuming!)

I assembled the cake and did all but the chocolate sauce. When it came time for the open house, however, there was no room for it! So i wrapped it in saran wrap, popped it in a ziploc and put it in the freezer. Much to my delight, it held up perfectly! We served it last week when we had company.

It was rich, decadent and had my company coming back for more! Heres the recipe I used. If you do a Google search for crepe cake, you will find a lot of variations! Fun!

Yellow Cake with Strawberry Rhubarb Filling

When someone wants a yellow cake, I almost always ask them if they’d like to add a strawberry rhubarb filling. It pairs so well with a simple yellow cake and really elevates it! I use a homemade rhubarb strawberry filling. Its so good! We eat it a lot in our home!

Thats what this one is. Then I simply decorated it with a vanilla buttercream in a ruffle pattern on the sides and the classic rose technique on top. Simple. Beautiful.
