Asparagus-love it or hate it?

I was given a challenge by a customer. Could I make an asparagus cake? No, not one with pureed asparagus in it, but one that just looked like asparagus.

I scanned the internet and found a great tutorial on http://www.sweetapolita.com. She gave very specific directions on how to make it. The flavor of the cake was lemon with cream cheese frosting.

Although it took some serious time and dedication, both I and my customer were pleased with the results!

It was a prank birthday cake for a vegetable hating teenager!

Graham Crackers!

So, I am working with a bride for her down home, in a barn, fireworks and hay bales wedding. She is having a bonfire after the ceremony and of course s’mores! I will be making some flavored homemade marshmallows! We got talking about the grahams too and decided to try some homemade ones! Oh man are they good! I will be making 600 for her reception! I will come back and share pictures from the event.

Strawberry Cupcakes

An order for a dozen of these came and I knew I needed to tweak them from the last time I made them. Last time, they were too much like muffins! I needed a light, delightful cupcake. Muffins are for breakfast, not dessert! So this time I took my vanilla cupcake recipe and instead of flavoring it with vanilla, I used strawberry extract. I also added strawberry extract to the buttercream frosting and a few tiny diced strawberries. Although the strawberries added some extra moisture I didn’t plan on, it was still delicious!
